WHO WE ARE

At Metro Marine, we've been designing custom submersible lighting fixtures for over 20 years. However, six years ago we set our sights on something completely new — developing a solution to the age-old problem of aggressive marine growth on clear surfaces that remain underwater for long periods of time — specifically, the lenses over Underwater Lighting Fixtures, Cameras, and other sensitive electronics.

 

Combining our years of experience manufacturing high-end LED fixtures, and leveraging our rich legacy of innovation and leadership in optics and LED control technology, Metro Marine introduces our F-Series line of Underwater LED Lighting Luminaires. Bringing a unique LED array to the market with over 72 LEDs per fixture, allowing for close luminaire placement where fully-mixed, uniform light is important, our F-Series Full Spectrum RGBW LED Arrays include a separate white LED, creating better-quality whites than are possible with traditional RGB LEDs. Metro Marine’s ActiveLEDsync™ technology optimizes the power to each LED channel, providing industry-leading output in the professional underwater LED luminaire market.

 

In addition, Metro’s unique, patented, Clear Lens™ Technology adds something no other underwater fixture can – it keeps the lenses of our Fixtures completely free of biofouling – no coatings, and no cleaning of our lenses will ever be needed!

Metro Marine’s patented Clear Lens™ Technology

Growth on clear underwater lenses, also known as biofouling, begins as a film formed by an accumulation of bacteria on glass and plastic lenses. Applying our industry-leading knowledge of LED lighting systems, and working with a Marine Biologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, we devised an innovative, proprietary solution to the problem of biofouling on lenses, which completely prevents any growth from ever forming on our Underwater Lighting Fixture’s lenses.

 

When Ultra-Violet C LEDs were first being developed for commercial applications, we were among the very earliest adopters of this new technology, and integrated UVC LEDs into a range of test-bed fixtures. Our first tests were off a dock in the Long Island Sound in Connecticut. Biofilm accumulated on the lens of our control fixture, but our Clear Lens™ Technology kept our test-bed fixtures' lenses Crystal Clear! Inspired by those results we began Beta-Testing another set of test-bed fixtures in the warmer, more biologically active waters of South Florida. Not only was biofilm inhibited from forming on our lens, our Clear Lens™ technology proved even more efficacious than we had anticipated! We were so thrilled with the level of success we'd achieved that we filed several US Utility Patents, now already granted, as well as international patents, and several additional patents still pending.
